We equip Grade 3–12 learners—and the educators who serve them—with practical study skills, a Reading Ability Programme that builds fluency and comprehension, and evidence-based career guidance.
1. Reading Programme
TheRight Choice partners with Read for Africa to bring the Phono-Graphix method to schools. Short, daily lessons and small-group boosters build sounds, spellings, blending & segmenting — gaining fluency and comprehension. Teacher training, easy home routines, and termly tracking ensure steady, visible progress.
What children learn (Age 4–Grade 3)
- Sound awareness (blend & segment)
- Code knowledge (sound-pictures & multiple spellings)
- Decoding (words & sentences)
- Encoding (plausible spellings)
- Fluency & comprehension
A typical 25–30 minute lesson
- Quick review — flash sound-pictures; oral blend/segment
- New code — introduce target sound & spelling(s)
- Build-It → Read-It — make words; blend; short phrases
- Write-It — segment & write; “other ways to spell”
- Connected text — short decodable passage; meaning check
Weekly structure
- 4–5 short lessons at learners’ code level
- 1 fluency slot (timed re-reads; WCPM tracking)
- 1 language block (read-aloud & comprehension talk)
Materials
Tiles/cards, mini whiteboards, decodable lists & short passages matched to the code taught.
2. Study Methods
Practical, evidence-based workshops using the Study Toolbox framework turn study time into simple, repeatable habits that boost understanding, memory, and exam performance.
What learners master
- Plan & Focus: time-blocking, weekly plans, distraction control, exam countdowns
- Understand: active reading (SQ3R), Cornell/maps notes, summarising
- Remember: retrieval practice, spaced repetition, elaboration, flashcards
- Practice: exam-style questions, interleaving, error logs, teach-back
- Reflect & Wellness: goals, metacognition check-ins, sleep/stress/device hygiene

3. Career Guidance
We help learners understand their strengths, interests, and aptitudes, then map subjects and pathways that fit — with personal feedback and subject-choice advice.

4. School Readiness
A school readiness assessment explores whether a child is ready to benefit from formal education and make a smooth, successful transition into school.
Critical indicators assessed
- Physical, sensory & motor development
- Cognitive development (intellectual, perceptual, language, numerical, reasoning, memory, knowledge)
- Emotional & social development
South African context
- Grade 1 entry is compulsory in the year a child turns seven → wide range of developmental profiles
- Formal readiness assessments are less routine → needs can go unnoticed until after enrolment
- Common gaps: language/phonological awareness, fine/visual-motor, auditory/visual processing, attention & self-regulation, working memory, undetected hearing/vision issues
